What is Botox?
Botulinum toxin or Botox is a popular cosmetic product used to diminish signs of skin aging. It is a substance that blocks specific nerve signals and paralyzes facial muscles to prevent contraction, thus reducing wrinkles and fine lines. Botox treatment can significantly reverse skin aging when received regularly.
Over the years, the uses of Botox have drastically increased owing to its affordability and convenience, with little to no downtime required post-treatment.
BE BEAUTIFUL & FEEL BEAUTIFUL WITH LESS NOTICEABLE LINES
It is injected into the muscle of the area in question with a fine needle. Your beautician will usually ask you to move the muscles in that area in order to establish the place that needs injecting.
Botox is one of the least sensitive treatment modalities available, using extremely tiny needles during the procedure. An ice pack can be also applied prior to the treatment, limiting discomfort nearly entirely.
Botox treatments are quick and effective, typically completed within 15-20 minutes. You may return to work directly thereafter with little to no downtime.
Within 3-5 days. The effects will reach their peak by day 10-14.
Effects last up to 4-6 months, so we usually recommend getting Botox every 4-6 months depending on the current state of wrinkles and force of the various facial muscle contractions.
Botox is relatively safe. The main associated risk is that you can get a brow drop, which occurs when the injection into the forehead is too low and one side of the brow drops, causing asymmetry. Asymmetry can also occur in the masseter lines.
Generally, however, it is a very safe procedure with very few risks when carried out by an experienced and qualified dermatologist. Long-term side effects are extremely rare.
There are many benefits of Botox. Firstly, the aesthetic benefits are that it smooths out fine lines and wrinkles. It can also be used to prevent these lines from occurring in the first place. Whilst this is a physical benefit, it can also have hugely positive psychological impacts on a person’s confidence.
