Ear microsuction is a minimally invasive procedure performed by trained healthcare professionals, typically audiologists or ENT specialists. It involves using a specialized device called a microsuction pump, which creates a gentle suction to remove earwax from the ear canal. Unlike traditional methods that use water irrigation or ear drops, ear microsuction offers a more controlled and precise approach.

The Procedure

  1. Examination: Before the procedure, the healthcare professional examines the ear canal using an otoscope, a handheld instrument with a light source. This helps identify the extent of the earwax buildup and any potential complications.

  2. Microsuction: The professional inserts a small, sterile suction wand into the ear canal. With the assistance of a microscope or loupe magnification, they carefully and skillfully remove the excess earwax using the gentle suction created by the microsuction pump.

  3. Visual Feedback: The use of magnification allows the professional to visualize the process in real-time, ensuring they can effectively target and remove the earwax without causing any harm to the delicate structures of the ear.
